Students will gain an understanding of the ongoing Israeli–Palestinian conflict, providing them with insights into a crucial aspect of international politics and its implications for world peace.
The Israeli–Palestinian conflict is often described as one of the most difficult conflicts in the world to resolve. On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel, which was followed by Israel’s large-scale retaliatory assault on Gaza. As a result, more than 70,000 innocent civilians have been killed in Gaza. Although a ceasefire was reached in October 2025, approximately 1.9 million people had already lost their homes, and Israeli attacks have continued even during the ceasefire period.
However, the suffering of the Palestinian people did not begin in October 2023. For more than 75 years, Palestinians have continued to lose their land under Israeli policies and occupation, and the situation has only grown more severe over time.
By examining the historical background of the conflict, this course aims to deepen understanding of its roots while encouraging participants to think from multiple perspectives — including colonialism, the structure of war, religious issues, international politics, and the concepts of peace and justice.
The lecturer has been involved with Palestine since 2012 as a NGO practitioner, and has visited Gaza more than 100 times. In addition, in January 2026, she suggested on a Gaza reconstruction support plan commissioned by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

多彩な学び科目
本科目は、担当教員の実務経験、または実務に従事するゲスト・スピーカーの招聘講義等を活かした授業である。
パレスチナ問題を理解すること。そこから、国際政治や平和について再考すること。
Students will gain an understanding of the ongoing Israeli–Palestinian conflict, providing them with insights into a crucial aspect of international politics and its implications for world peace.
世界で最も解決するのが難しい紛争と言われる、「パレスチナ－イスラエル問題」。2023年10月7日には、ハマスによるイスラエルへの奇襲攻撃から、イスラエルによるガザへの報復攻撃が起こり、ガザでは、7万人以上の無辜の市民が殺されました。また2025年10月に停戦を迎えましたが、これまでに190万人もの人々が家を失い、また停戦中もイスラエルによる攻撃が続いています。
しかし、こうした人々の苦難は、2023年10月に始まったわけではありません。実際、75年以上の間、パレスチナ人はイスラエルにより土地を奪われ続けています。しかし、この間、問題は解決されないばかりか、深刻になるばかりです。
歴史的背景を紐解きながら、問題の歴史を学び、また植民地主義、戦争の構造、宗教問題、国際政治、或いは平和や正義について、多角的に考える機会を作りたいと思います。
講師は 2012年から現在までNGO職員として、また研究者としてパレスチナ関わり続け、ガザにはこれまでに 100 回以上訪れています。また、2026年1月には、外務省の委託によりガザの復興支援計画の提案業務に携わりました。
