Explore the challenges facing contemporary society from the perspective of welfare state studies. This course encourages students to actively develop the ability to critically analyse these issues independently, as well as the skill to examine each problem through their own reasoning. Students are inspired to share their insights with others, fostering collaborative learning, and to cultivate the confidence to communicate their thoughts effectively.
This course examines the relevance of the welfare state to our daily lives, communities, and surroundings, with a primary focus on its historical context. The course begins by exploring the challenges facing contemporary society, such as poverty, work and labour, child-rearing, an ageing society, international conflicts, migration, and asylum seekers. Students will participate in small-group discussions, which will later be expanded into whole-class debates. Finally, students will reflect on their approaches to tackling these social issues.

本科目は、担当教員の実務経験、または実務に従事するゲスト・スピーカーの招聘講義等を活かした授業である。
福祉国家研究の視点から現代社会が直面する課題を理解する。これらの課題を主体的・批判的に分析し、それぞれの問題について自己の力で考察するスキルを磨くことが期待される。同時に、養った考えを他者と共有し、自分の考えを効果的に他者へと伝える力を養う。

「福祉国家とは何か」への理解が、自分や自分をとりまく人々、そしてコミュニティにとってどのように関わるのかを、福祉国家の歴史的・文化的観点から検討する。社会保障、貧困、仕事と労働、子育て、教育、高齢化社会、国際紛争、移民や難民といった幅広い問題を検討等の現代社会が抱える諸問題を知ることから出発する。少人数によるディスカッションを行い、それをクラス全体での議論に発展させる。その議論を受けて、自らがどのようにそれらの社会問題に向き合うのかを考察する。
