We will understand the various aspects of French society by examining and analyzing each period based on thinking and cultural practice, and will consider so-called Frenchness as well as its diversity.
We will examine the ideal form of modern French civil society that is said to be the homeland of democracy following the French Revolution while tracing its history. Using various image and video materials as well as distributed print-outs, we will follow the transition of French society after the French Revolution from multiple perspectives.
Through this course, we hope that students will have the opportunity to think about the significance of France's unique culture and social form, which is different from the environment of Japan where we live, or the American society that you will be familiar with.

フランス社会の諸相を、それぞれの時代思潮や文化的実践をふまえて検討・分析しながら理解し、いわゆるフランスらしさと同時にまたその多様性を考察する。
We will understand the various aspects of French society by examining and analyzing each period based on thinking and cultural practice, and will consider so-called Frenchness as well as its diversity.
絶対王政を否定した大革命により共和国となったフランスは、民主主義の祖国ともいわれるます。この講義ではそのようなフランスの近代市民社会のあり方を、さまざまな側面から、ときには歴史をたどりながら考察します。配布のプリントのほかにもさまざまな画像・映像資料を利用しつつ、大革命以降のフランス社会の変遷に多角的に迫っていきます。
この講義をとおして、我々の生活している日本という環境、あるいは諸君が慣れ親しんでいるであろうアメリカ社会とは異なる、フランスのもっている独自の文化や社会の形の意義を考える機会となることを希望します。
