Intercultural understanding and communication skills are among the most essential key concepts that students are expected to develop during their undergraduate studies. This course is structured around a single keyword that integrates these two concepts. By taking this course, students will learn—through the method of critical incidents—the fundamental principles for engaging with cultural differences. They will also develop the ability to reflect on these principles and apply them through thoughtful consideration and action in practical situations.
Based on students’ prior reading of the assigned textbook, the first half of each class will focus on explanations of the key concepts and important points from the reading. In the second half of the class, students will engage in group work and various activities designed to help them develop the knowledge gained in the first half into practical understanding. At the end of each class, students will submit a reaction paper in which they reflect on both the lecture content and the insights gained through the activities. After each class, students are expected to read the relevant section of the textbook in preparation for the following session.

多彩な学び科目
「異文化理解」、「コミュニケーション力」は学士課程の学びで得られる鍵概念の最たるもので、これら2つの概念をひとつのキーワードにまとめたもので本講座は構成されています。本講座を受講することにより、クリティカルインシデントという手法を通して、異質なものと向き合うための心得を知り、かつ、それを実践の場面で考え、行動することができるようになります。

事前に読んできてもらう教科書の内容理解を踏まえて、講義では大切となる部分について解説をします。これが毎回の前半でやることです。授業の後半では、グループワークやアクティビティーを通して、前半で学んだ内容を実践知の形に高めてもらいます。授業の最後には、前半の内容と後半の実践知から得られた事柄をリアクションペーパーに書き込み提出してもらいます。授業後には、次回とりあげる内容に関して、教科書を読んでいただきます。
