The course aims to explore various aspects of translation and interpreting as intercultural communication both from a theoretical and practical perspective. Another aim is to apply the knowledge gained through lectures in practical situations, including group discussions and translation and interpreting exercises. As a liberal arts subject, this course is aligned with the University’s objectives of fostering a wide range of knowledge, cultural understanding, and critical thinking skills beyond their specialized fields, and is designed for any level of learners.
This course will focus on the following three points.
• Examining the basic concepts and principles of translation and interpreting, along with ‘meaning’ in situational and cultural contexts.
• Recognizing various approaches towards translation and interpreting in specific types of texts, contexts, and settings.
• Analyzing, selecting and applying optimal approaches for effectively translating various types of texts and interpreting. This will take form in group exercises, presentations and written assignments.

授業はパワーポイントを使用した講義形式で行う。授業では、学生への質問も活発に行うため、積極的な受講態度が期待される。また、ディスカッションやグループワーク等の活動を積極的に関わり、能動的に学修を進めることが期待される。
授業にＰＣまたはタブレット端末を持参すること。
クラスの状況などにより、スケジュールや内容を調整する場合がある。
授業で用いるレジュメやパワーポイント資料などはCanvas LMSで配布し、授業で紙媒体を配布することは行わない。レポート課題などもCanvas LMS上で発表するため、毎回授業前にCanvas LMSを確認すること。

本講義では、異文化コミュニケーションとしての通訳翻訳の諸相を理論と実践事例から探究することを目的とする。さらに、講義を通して得た知識を自らの翻訳通訳実践に反映させることを目標とする。また、全学共通科目として、専門分野の枠を越えた幅広い知識と教養、総合的な判断力を養うことを目標とする。

この講義では、次の3点に重点をおいて授業を進めていく。
• 通訳翻訳の基本的概念と原理、状況的・文化的文脈に基づく通訳翻訳を考察する
• 絵本や小説、映画とその他通訳事例について、その目的に応じた最善の翻訳方略や通訳アプローチを検討する。
• 各自で調べた実践事例から方略を分析し、グループ発表およびレポートの形でまとめる。
