The course aims to explore various aspects of translation and interpreting as intercultural communication, both from theoretical and practical perspectives. Another aim is to apply the knowledge gained through lectures in practical situations, including group discussions and translation exercises. As a liberal arts subject, this course supports the University’s objectives of fostering a wide range of knowledge, cultural understanding, and critical judgment beyond their specialized fields, and is designed for any level of learners.
This course will focus on the following three points.
• Understanding the basic concepts and principles of translation and interpreting, along with ‘meaning’ in situational and cultural contexts.
• Recognizing various approaches towards translation and interpreting in specific types of texts, contexts, and norms
• Analyzing real-world cases (text, video, audio, etc.) through theoretical frameworks to examine the strategies and approaches employed. Through this, students will understand the processes of translation and the role of interpreters and translators in cross-cultural communication from multiple perspectives.

授業はパワーポイントを使用した講義形式で行う。授業では学生への質問も活発に行うため、積極的かつ能動的な受講態度が期待される。また、グループでのディスカッションや発表課題などの活動に積極的に関わり、仲間と協力しながら学修を進める姿勢が求められる。授業で扱う資料は、日本語の文献を中心とし、随時、英語の文献を扱う。毎回の授業では、リアクションペーパーを書いて提出することが求められる。
授業にＰＣまたはタブレット端末を持参すること。
授業の状況によって変更されることがある。
多彩な学び科目
本講義では、異文化コミュニケーションとしての通訳翻訳の諸相を理論と事例から探究することを目的とする。また、講義で得た学びを、グループでのディスカッションや発表課題などの活動を通じて、実践に応用できる力へつなげることを目指す。全学共通科目として、専門分野の枠を越えた幅広い知識と教養、総合的な判断力を養うことを目標とする。

この講義では、次の3点に重点をおいて授業を進めていく。
• 通訳翻訳の基本用語と概念、理解における「文脈」の役割、状況や文脈を考慮し「意味」を考察する。
• 絵本や小説、映画などの事例を通じて、目的や場面、規範などに応じた翻訳方略を理解する。
• 自ら調べた事例（テクストや映像、音声など）を分析対象とし、実務で用いられる方略やアプローチを理論的枠組みに基づいて検討する。その過程を通じて、翻訳プロセスを理解するとともに、異文化間コミュニケーションにおける通訳者・翻訳者の担う役割について多角的に考察する。
This course will focus on the following three points.
