【Course Objectives】

This course aims at helping students deepen understanding on Japanese society from the viewpoint of circular use of resources, and equip themselves with knowledge and approaches for building circular economy. Students will also acquire skills for interdisciplinary discussions in English.

【Course Contents】

The course introduces examples of circular use of resources in Japan’s Edo period before examining scientific significance of using solar energy as the base for economy. It will then look into the effects of industrialization and dependency on fossil fuel that started in Meiji period. It will discuss possibilities and challenges of recent move toward circular economy with the help of conversations with guest speakers.

The course will be conducted in English. Though no specific test scores (English proficiency scores) are asked for, please refer to the following descriptions and test score examples when you decide your registration.
