備考/ NotesNotes |
This class focuses on the social issues of the relationship between humans and other animals. While we adore some animals as pets, we also eat and wear some animals without feeling any contradiction. Students are expected to think and discuss these issues and develop their own thoughts. Also, the class encourages students to think of specific actions they can take to deal with these issues. By the end of the course, students should be able to summarize their thoughts on various animal-related social problems.
Every day we are deeply involved with animals in various ways. Animals can be pets, popular food sources, or used in medical experiments. As our lives are deeply intertwined with non-human animals, thinking about animals is linked to thinking about the world today and ourselves. The class will cover topics such as zoos, pets, livestock animals, and traditional food culture.
Students will be required to give three group presentations during the semester (the number of presentations may change depending on the number of students enrolled).
