| 備考/ NotesNotes |
This class explores social issues surrounding the relationships between humans and other animals. While some animals are cherished as pets, others are eaten or worn, often without a sense of contradiction. Through lectures, hands-on experiences, and dialogue with fellow students, participants are expected to think critically and develop their own perspectives. By the end of the course, students should have a deeper understanding of issues related to human–animal relationships and be able to reflect on their own attitudes and actions.
Every day, we are deeply involved with animals in various ways. Animals may be companions, sources of food, or subjects of medical experimentation. Because our lives are so closely intertwined with non-human animals, thinking about animals is inseparable from thinking about the contemporary world and about ourselves. This class covers topics such as zoos, pets, and livestock animals.
Students are required to engage in dialogue and to work collaboratively with their classmates to conduct research and complete three written reports during the semester.
