【Course Objectives】

The objective of the course is to provide students with the overview and the basic knowledge of tourism and tourism studies. At the end of the course, students are expected to have a basic understanding of tourism and to be able to analyse various aspects of tourism, taking cases that are close to themselves.

【Course Contents】

The course will allow students to learn basic concepts and key topics studied in tourism studies. During the course of this process, students will be trained to analyse various challenges of tourism taking cases that can be found around them, dig into them a little further, and rethink their taken-for-grantedness. By doing so, students are encouraged to think about the complexity of important issues related to tourism such as sustainability, authenticity, and local community in a more concrete and balanced manner.

Students are expected to revise what was covered in the class every week and further develop their thoughts in reaction papers that are assigned after each session based on what was learned and discussed in the class. They are expected to work on these reaction papers seriously by providing good arguments and balanced views.
