【授業の目標 / Course Objectives】

中国古典小説の主要な作品、特徴、ジャンル、時代ごとの変遷について学び、全体像を把握する。
中国古典小説を通じて、中国語圏における社会・文化・思想の変遷を理解する。
中国古典小説の多様性とその文学的価値および日本文化や現代社会への影響について考察する。

【授業の内容 / Course Contents】

中国古典文学の世界観において、「小説」は長らく中心から外れた辺縁的なものと位置付けられてきた。しかし、中国語圏の各時代の社会・文化・思想を映し出す表現物として、小説ほど多様で豊かなものはないだろう。本授業では、先秦の寓話から清代の白話小説に至るまで、各時代の代表的な小説作品を取り上げ、その成立過程、物語内容、構造、受容の様相を多角的に分析し、小説が持つ「豊かさ」とその社会的・文化的意義に迫る。とりわけ小説の「虚構性」に注目し、その表現技法や語りの構造を掘り下げる講義としたい。

授業では受講生自身が作品を深く読み解き、批評的思考を養うことを重視する。そのため、毎回の授業ごとにリアクションペーパー（200字以上）の提出を求めることで、学んだ内容を振り返り、知識を定着させる。学期末には、受講生が最も興味を持った中国古典小説作品についての最終レポートを課し、各自の視点から小説の魅力や意義を考察することを求める。

本授業を通じて、中国古典小説に関する基礎的な知識を修得するだけでなく、文学と社会の関係について理解を深め、批判的かつ創造的に作品を読み解く力を養うことを目指す。

In the worldview of classical Chinese literature, the novel has long been regarded as a peripheral genre, distant from the literary mainstream. However, few forms of expression are as diverse and rich as the novel in reflecting the society, culture, and thought of different eras in the Chinese-speaking world.

In this course, we will examine representative novels from each era, from pre-Qin fables to vernacular novels of the Qing dynasty, and analyze their formation process, narrative content, structure, and reception from multiple perspectives. We will also explore the depth and diversity of novels and their social and cultural significance. In particular, we will focus on the "fictionality" of novels, delving into their expressive techniques and narrative structures through lectures.

The course emphasizes students’ own deep reading of the works and the cultivation of critical thinking. Therefore, students will be required to submit a reaction paper (at least 200 characters) for each class, reflecting on what they have learned and reinforcing their understanding. At the end of the semester, students will be asked to submit a final paper on the classical Chinese novel they found most interesting, analyzing its appeal and significance from their own perspective.

Through this course, students will not only acquire basic knowledge of classical Chinese novels but also deepen their understanding of the relationship between literature and society, and develop the ability to read works critically and creatively.
