【授業の目標 / Course Objectives】

この授業では、フランス語で書く作家たちの文学作品をコーパスとし、各作品の読解をとおしてその背景にある思想や歴史を知り、文化の多様性を理解する。とりわけ「個人的な経験」を書くことを出発点にする作家たちを取り上げ、文学において「個人的なもの」はいかにして共有されるものとなり、世界に接続されうるのかを探る。

This course uses literary works by French-language writers as its corpus. Through close reading of each work, students will explore the underlying ideas and historical contexts, gaining an understanding of cultural diversity. We will focus particularly on writers who begin with writing about “personal experience,” examining how the “personal” in literature becomes something shared and connected to the wider world.

【授業の内容 / Course Contents】

いわゆる「フランス文学」と「フランス語圏文学」との間に否応なく横たわる「隔たり」や、それらの非対称性を意識しつつも、「フランス語で書かれた文学」というより大きな枠組みで、様々な地域にルーツを持つ近現代の作家と作品を扱う。「個人的なもの」の表象を共通のテーマとして、作品の文化的・社会的・歴史的背景を個別に分析すると同時に、回想録、証言、日記、エッセイ、旅行記など、文学のさまざまな表現形式を通して「自伝的なもの」の広がりを概観する。また、「自伝的なもの」「個人的なもの」を題材としつつも「フィクション」として提示されるテクスト（「オートフィクション」や「エグゾフィクション」など）を分析し、これらの作品における「真実性」についても考察したい。
「個人的なもの」が、「普遍的なもの」として「全体」に吸収されるのではなく、かといって「特殊なもの」としてひとまとめに括られ「周縁」におかれるのでもない仕方で、「共に感じられるもの」として共有されるとすれば、それはいかなる方法によって可能となるのか。「私」の経験が「私ではない」人々に触れる、その接続の可能性について考える。

While remaining conscious of the inevitable “gap” and asymmetry between so-called “French literature” and “Francophone literature,” this course examines modern and contemporary writers and works rooted in diverse regions within the broader framework of “literature written in French.” Taking the representation of the “personal” as a common theme, it individually analyzes the cultural, social, and historical contexts of works while simultaneously surveying the breadth of the “autobiographical” through various literary forms such as memoirs, testimonies, diaries, essays, and travelogues.
Furthermore, the course will analyze texts that present “the autobiographical” and “the personal” as subjects within “fiction” (such as “autofiction” and ‘exofiction’), and also examine the notion of “truthfulness” within these works.
If the “personal” is to be shared as something “commonly felt”—neither absorbed into the “whole” as the “universal” nor lumped together as the “particular” and relegated to the ‘margins’—by what means might this be possible? We consider the potential for connection: how the experiences unique to “me” alone touch people who are “not me.”
