This course explores Korean proletarian literature written under Japanese colonial rule from the 1920s to 1930s, examining how people's experiences and worldviews under the contradictory conditions of colonialism and capitalism were expressed through literary forms. To enhance our understanding of these works, we study the period's social circumstances and systems that provided their context. The course aims to deepen understanding of the shared historical experience of colonialism between Korea and Japan in the modern era, while considering the contemporary relevance of Korean proletarian literature from a century ago.
The course will be conducted in lecture form.
The main focus of this course is to read Korean proletarian literary works in Japanese translation, appreciating their evocative and nuanced literary expressions, which can sometimes be extreme and grotesque, and to expand our insight into the potential of imagination toward human society. To deepen students’ understanding of each literary text, the lecturer will provide explanations on the works' themes, contents, historical backgrounds, and contextual circumstances. Students are required to submit comments on each lecture and short reviews of the works they have read. Through sharing the reviews and providing feedback on them in class, we will explore multiple possible interpretations of the works.

学期中に、少なくとも3つの文学作品（短篇小説、もしくは詩を予定）を読み、短いレビューを提出することが課題になります。課題作品は日本語訳で配布します。
授業で使用するスライドをPDFで配布します。予習・復習や課題等に取り組む際にに役立ててください。
1つの作品につき、テクストを読み、授業内容を咀嚼しながらレビューを書いて提出するのに、20時間程度を要するものとします。
授業では比較的多数の文学作品を取り扱う予定です。すべてを読破する必要はありませんが、関心のある作品については、学習の深度を上げるためにも積極的に手に取って読んでみてください。

多彩な学び科目
1920年代から1930年代にかけて、日本による植民地支配下で書かれた朝鮮のプロレタリア文学を実際に読みながら、植民地支配と資本主義社会の矛盾のもとに生きた人々の経験や世界認識が、文学という形式を通じてどのように表現されえたのかを探求します。文学作品の理解を深めるため、その背景となった同時代の社会状況や諸制度についても学習します。この授業を通じて、今から100年前の朝鮮プロレタリア文学が持ちうる今日的な意義について考えるとともに、近現代の朝鮮半島と日本が共有する植民地支配という歴史的経験について知り、理解を深めることを目標とします。

授業は講義形式でおこないます。
この授業の主眼は、日本語訳を利用して朝鮮のプロレタリア文学作品を実際に読んでいきながら、時に強烈でグロテスクでもある暗示と陰影に富んだ文学表現を味わい、人間が生きる社会に対する想像力の可能性について、洞察を広げていくことにあります。講義を通じて、作品の主題や内容、時代背景や周辺的な状況などに関して、理解を深めるための解説を提示します。受講者は、毎回の授業内容に対するコメントと、自分で読んだ作品に関する短いレビューを提出する必要があります。提出されたレビューの内容を授業内で共有し、フィードバックをおこなうことで、作品の様々な解釈の可能性についても検討します。
