(1) Students will acquire knowledge of the major disciplines of Japanese traditional music and their historical development.
(2) Students will understand how foreign music (instruments) was accepted and has reached the present day.
(3) Students will perceive the differences in singing methods and the characteristics of the accompanying instruments through the appreciation of the various disciplines of Japanese music.
Many students may associate “traditional Japanese music” with instrumental music such as koto and shamisen. However, many of the traditional Japanese musical instruments are based on vocal expression such as “song” and “narration,” and are closely related to the language arts of poetry, storytelling, and drama.
In this lecture, while listening to sound and video recordings of major Japanese traditional music, the historical background and musical structure of the music will be explained in chronological order of its creation. Today, there are few opportunities to experience traditional music even though one lives in Japan. Now is the time for many foreign visitors to become aware of the rich musical culture inherited by our predecessors.

(2)外来の音楽（楽器）がどのように受容され、現代に至るのか理解する。
(3)多様な種目の鑑賞を通じて、歌唱法の違いや楽器奏法の特色を感じ取ることができる。

「日本の伝統音楽」といえば、箏や三味線などの器楽を想起する人が多いだろう。しかしながら、日本音楽の種目の多くは「うた」や「語り」といった声による表現を主体にしており、言語芸術である詩歌や物語、演劇などとも深い関わりがある。
本講義では、日本の伝統音楽の主要な種目の音源や動画を視聴しながら、それらが生まれた歴史的背景や音楽のしくみについて、成立年代順に概説する。日本に居ながらも、伝統音楽に触れる機会が少ない現代。多くの外国人が訪れる今こそ、先人達が継承してきた豊かな音楽文化に意識を向けていきたい。
