【授業の目標 / Course Objectives】

本授業には以下の目標があります。
（１）本授業の目標は、受講生が雅楽を事例にして日本の伝統音楽を正しく理解することと、最終的には雅楽を他人に紹介できるようになっていることです。現代では日本の伝統音楽を知る機会は少ないです。しかし我々の周囲には神社や寺院が多くあったり、様々な伝統文化に関するニュースやテレビ番組などを多く見聞きしたりします。そのため伝統文化を知ろうとして積極的に興味を持つと、実際はそれが身の回りに溢れていることに気付くでしょう。また、日本人であろうと外国人であろうと、日本の大学で学ぶ学生は日本文化の教養を身に付けておく必要があります。
（２）授業の各回の目標は、現代に伝承されている雅楽の楽器・曲目・装束・行事等を大まかに理解することや、世界規模の広がりの中に雅楽の歴史と文化を理解することです。
（３）授業目標ではありませんが、「現代人は古くから続く文化をなぜ習い伝えるのか」という問いについて日頃から考えてください。

This course has the following goals:
(1) The goal of this course is for you to gain a proper understanding of Japanese traditional music using Gagaku as an example, and ultimately to be able to introduce Gagaku to others. Nowadays, there are few opportunities to learn about it. However, there are many Shinto shrines and Buddhism temples around us, and we often hear and see news and television programs about Japanese traditional cultures. Therefore, if you take an active interest in learning about them, you will find that they are actually all around you. Additionally, students studying at Japanese universities, whether Japanese or foreign, need to acquire knowledge of them.
(2) The goal of each session is to gain a general understanding of the instruments, pieces, costumes, and events of Gagaku that have been passed down to the present day, as well as to understand the history and culture of Gagaku in the context of its global reach.
(3) Although this is not the goal of this course, I would like you to think about the question, "Why do modern people learn and pass on ancient cultures?"

【授業の内容 / Course Contents】

本授業では、雅楽を主に扱うことによって日本音楽を学びます。日本において雅楽は他の音楽分野の源泉となるのみならず、音楽周辺の美術・建築・文学・宗教などの文化とも深く関わってきました。また、近年に国内外でよく知られるようにもなっています。そのような雅楽に関して、本授業では初歩的かつ正しい理解を身に付けます。なお、本授業では講義の他に、受講生が歌曲を歌う実習もあります。

In this course, you will learn about Japanese traditional music, focusing mainly on Gagaku. In Japan, it has not only served as a source of inspiration for other musical genres, but has also been deeply connected to the culture surrounding music, including art, architecture, literature, and religion. In recent years, it has also become well known both domestically and internationally. This course will provide you with a basic and accurate understanding of it. In addition, we will have a practical session to sing Gagaku songs.
