【Course Objectives】

The objectives of this course are that studies will 1) describe the methods of literary analysis related to psychologyand 2) apply those methods to the analysis of literary texts. Students will develop skills in textual analysis, applying
inquiry methods to a variety of texts.
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
(i) discuss different aspects of psychology in literature;
(ii) in a pair or small group, prepare and present an interactive talk related to aspects of psychology in literature;
(iii) write short reflective responses to literary topics while showing an understanding of relevant theories of
literature and psychology.

【Course Contents】

The contents of this course will be based on fairy tales from around the world. In this course, we will explore the psychology of literature from a variety of perspectives, using examples from tradition versions of tales, as well as adaptations and remixed/contemporary versions. Topics for investigation include empathy, emotions, theory-of-mind, effects of literature on the reader and
creativity in fictional texts.
