The objective of this course is to encourage students to reframe environmental issues such as climate change and biodiversity loss, as well as social challenges related to social inclusion and health and well-being, as issues embedded in everyday urban spaces and daily life, and to develop the ability to consider solutions from their own perspectives.
In this course, students will explore contemporary urban trends that seek to reconfigure urban spaces around people and nature as urban responses to a wide range of challenges, including climate change, biodiversity loss, social inclusion, and health and well-being. The course begins with an overview of the relationship between cities and nature in modern urban planning (Sessions 2–3). It then examines the concept, related legal and institutional frameworks, and practical implementations of “Re-naturing” currently being advanced in cities both in Japan and internationally. Specifically, the lectures are structured around three perspectives: the re-naturing of urban space (Sessions 4–6), the re-naturing of urban metabolism (Sessions 7–9), and the re-naturing of urban relationships and engagement (Sessions 10–12). Finally, the course highlights the roles of diverse stakeholders who support and drive urban re-naturing initiatives (Session 13).

本授業の目標は、気候変動や生物多様性の喪失といった環境問題、ならびに社会的包摂や健康・福利に関する社会問題を、都市の身近な空間や暮らしの問題として捉え直し、自分自身の立場から解決策を考えられるようになる。
The objective of this course is to encourage students to reframe environmental issues such as climate change and biodiversity loss, as well as social challenges related to social inclusion and health and well-being, as issues embedded in everyday urban spaces and daily life, and to develop the ability to consider solutions from their own perspectives.
本授業では、気候変動、生物多様性の喪失、社会的包摂、健康・福利といった多様な社会課題に対する都市の応答として、都市空間を人と自然中心につくり変えようとする現代都市の潮流について学ぶ。まず、近代都市計画における都市と自然の関係について外観した上で（第2回〜第3回）、国内外の都市で進められている「再自然化（Re-naturing）」の理念、関連する法制度、および具体的な実践を取り上げる。具体的には、都市の「空間」の再自然化（第4回〜第6回）、都市の「代謝」の再自然化（第7回〜第9回）、都市での「関わり」の再自然化（第10回〜第12回）という3つの視点から講義する。さらに、都市の再自然化を支えるステイクホルダーの役割にも着目する（第13回）。
