The goal of this course is for students to understand the reception and development of Christianity in Japan and other Asian nations within the context of world and Asian history.
This course aims to examine the history of Christian missions and their development in Asia, with particular emphasis on Japan. By considering the global historical context that led to the introduction of Christianity to Japan, the course focuses primarily on Christian missionary activities beginning with Francis Xavier, while also exploring missions in other parts of Asia, including China and Korea. We will consider the spread of Christianity while capturing the characteristics of each region and time period.

日本及びアジア諸地域でのキリスト教の受容と展開について、世界的なキリスト教の広がりのなかに位置づけながら理解する。
The goal of this course is for students to understand the reception and development of Christianity in Japan and other Asian nations within the context of world and Asian history.
日本を中心に、アジア諸地域におけるキリスト教の布教と展開の歴史について学びます。日本布教に至る世界史的背景を踏まえたうえで、特にザビエルから始まる日本でのキリスト教布教について中心的に扱い、中国や朝鮮など他のアジア地域での展開についても取り上げます。それぞれの地域・時代における特徴を捉え、キリスト教の広がりを考えます。
