The objective is to be able to think about the state of the arts from multiple perspectives through the problems associated with the formation and performance of various operas. At the same time, the course aims to improve students' ability to think independently and to express this in writing.
This course takes up famous operatic works produced in Europe during the 18th to 20th centuries, focusing on their relationship to the historical background, the librettos and its source materials, changes in compositional techniques and the interpretations of the directors, in order to decipher the various aspects unique to opera as a comprehensive art form.

各回の授業は次回以降の内容へとつながっていくので、配付資料やノートなどを通して理解を深め、関連する文献に目を通すなど、知識の定着を図るよう努めること。
また、音楽を対象とする授業なので、鑑賞経験も重ねることも大変に重要です。大学図書館経由でアクセスできる音楽データベース「ナクソス・ミュージック・ライブラリー」や、図書館所蔵の視聴覚資料などを活用し、意識的に様々なクラシック音楽に触れてみてください。

学びの精神科目
本科目は、担当教員の実務経験、または実務に従事するゲスト・スピーカーの招聘講義等を活かした授業である。
様々なオペラにおける作品成立や上演に伴う諸問題を通じて、芸術のあり方について多角的に考えられるようになることを目標とする。同時に、みずから考える姿勢と、それを文章で表現する力の向上を目指す。

18世紀から20世紀の各時代にヨーロッパで生み出された有名なオペラ作品を題材に、時代背景との関わり、台本とその原作、作曲技法の変化、そして演出家の解釈などに焦点を当て、総合芸術であるオペラならではの諸相を読み解く。
