As globalization progresses in recent years, the importance of a plurilingual and multicultural perspective has been emphasized. In this class, we will focus on language itself, and using examples from various languages, we will consider their characteristics from different perspectives.
We will consider what characteristics and properties languages have, what they have in common, and what types of diversity there are. We will observe and analyze interesting characteristics and/or history of languages such as Japanese, which is likely your native language, English, which you have been studying for a relatively long time, and language B (so-called second foreign language), which you will likely encounter for the first time after entering university, as well as the importance and significance of learning multiple languages. You may find some useful hints when learning a new language.

漠然とでもいいので、言語というものに興味を持っている人、さまざまなことばに触れてみたい人を歓迎します。授業中はさまざまな言語が登場するため、言語そのものに対する関心があることが望ましいですが、各言語や言語学の知識は前提としません。

近年グローバル化が進むにつれ、「複言語・複文化」的な見方の重要性が強調されるようになっています。この授業では、特に言語そのものに焦点をあて、いろいろな言語の例に触れながら、言語というものの特性をさまざまな側面から考察していきます。

「言語」というものが、どのような特性や性質を持っているか、どのような点で共通しているのか、どのような多様性があるのか考えます。皆さんの多くが母語としているであろう日本語、比較的長い間学習を続けている英語、大学に入ってから初めて触れることが多いと思われる言語B（いわゆる第２外国語）、それらの意外な特徴やこれまでの歩み、複数の言語を学ぶ重要性や意義などに触れていきましょう。新たな言語を学ぶ時に役立つヒントが見つかるかもしれません。
