Children’s fantasy literature has received a strong influence from Christian culture. In this course, students will extensively grasp the relationship between literature and religion by examining fairy tales and children’s literature that remain familiar to many today. Students will see that Children’s fantasy literature has profoundly been shaped by Christian culture. This course invites students to explore the captivating connection between literature and religion, exploring beloved fairy tales and cherished children’s stories. By examining these works, students will appreciate their timeless nature and uncover the significant aspects of Christianity that enrich the cultural contexts of each narrative. Join us on this enlightening journey to enhance your understanding of literature and its roots in faith. Understand the aspects of Christianity relevant to the cultural backgrounds of each work．

近代西欧で誕生した児童文学ファンタジーは、キリスト教文化の影響を強く受けており、その主題や表象に表れている。本講義では文学と宗教の関係を広くとらえ，現代でも親しまれている童話や児童文学の宗教的主題や文化的背景としてのキリスト教とその変容から魔女の誕生や死と再生のモチーフを読み解く。
