This course aims to study the history of Christianity and consider the changes in its social functions. Through this, we aim to deepen the multiple understanding of Christianity and the positive and negative impacts it has had on society.
Since the establishment of nation-states, freedom of religion was permitted in many countries, and it seemed that religion had moved from the political sphere to the inner sphere of the individual. However, religion has been linked to various cultural spheres, contributed to the formation of the nation, and worked to support politics. And this relationship appears to continue today. In this lecture, we will first overview the history of Christianity before the establishment of nation-states and look at its political function and the process of differentiation. We will then look at the relationship Christianity has had with the state since then. There are several Christianity. For example, Christianity influenced by the Enlightenment and moralized, and Christianity seeking a different path. We will look at various understandings of Christianity through the understanding of Christianity by several thinkers, such as Christianity that contributes to the formation of national identity and Christianity that destroys it.

学びの精神科目
キリスト教の歴史を学び、その中でキリスト教が持ってきた社会的機能の変遷を考察する。そしてそれを通し、キリスト教の複数性、社会に対して与えた肯定的影響、否定的影響について理解を深めることを目標とする。
This course aims to study the history of Christianity and consider the changes in its social functions. Through this, we aim to deepen the multiple understanding of Christianity and the positive and negative impacts it has had on society.
国民国家の成立以来、多くの国で信教の自由が認められ、宗教は、政治の領域から個人の内面の領域へとその場所を移すこととなったかに見えた。しかし宗教は、文化的な諸領域と結びつき、国民形成に寄与し、政治を下支えするものとして働いてきた。そしてそのような関係は、現代においてもまだなお続いているように思われる。本講義では、まず国民国家の成立以前の西洋でのキリスト教の歴史を概観し、その政治的機能とその分化過程を見る。そしてその後キリスト教が、国家とどのように関係したかについて見ていく。啓蒙主義による影響を被り、道徳化するキリスト教、それとは異なる道を模索するキリスト教。国民のアイデンティティ形成に寄与するキリスト教、またそのようなアイデンティティ形成をつき崩すようなキリスト教など、いくつかの思想家のキリスト教理解を通して、さまざまなキリスト教理解を見る。
