What is religion in the context of modern society? In this course, we will engage with selected texts to listen to the voices they convey within our current social reality. Our primary goal is to think through these issues without ceasing, aiming for that moment when thought is finally born within us as Living Word. As historical existence, it is empty to ask questions that are detached from the reality we live in here and now. We are required to pursue our inquiries in close connection with questions about our own existence, human nature, and our innate religiousness.
Therefore, what matters is not "borrowed knowledge," but how thoroughly you have learned and thought for yourself. To this end, you are expected to express your thoughts in words and deepen them through presentations, dialogue, and discussion. Furthermore, you must polish your critical thinking and reading skills through a continuous daily dialogue with the texts.
Please note that the course content may be adjusted based on the students' progress and needs.
We will critically reflect on the fundamental issues of human society since the modern era. By confronting the realities of division, conflict, and injustice from the past to the present, we seek to explore the possibilities of religion in the world today.

学びの精神科目
現代社会の中の宗教とは何か。現代社会の具体的な問題状況を批判的に明らかにする、宗教に深く関連するテキスト（その他資料）の読解を通じて、その語りかける言葉を傾聴し、自らのうちについに思想が生きた言葉として生まれ出るその誕生の時に向かって、徹底的に思考停止せずに考え抜くことがこの科目の主眼目である。われわれは歴史的存在であり、今この身において生きている現実と切り離して問うても空虚である。われわれの存在への問い、人間本性への問い、人間の宗教性への問い、そうしたわれわれ自身への問いと密着しながら、探求を進めてゆくことが求められる。したがって借り物の知識ではなく自分でどこまで徹底的に学び考えたかが重要になる。そのために、自らの考えを言葉によって示し、テキスト読解、対話、討議をつうじて深めることが求められる。また、自らの思考と読解の力をテキストとの日々の継続的な対話を通じて練磨することが求められる。なお内容は受講者の状況などに応じて変更される場合がある。

近現代以降の人間社会の根本問題を批判的にかえりみつつ、過去から今日に至る人間社会の現実に生じている様々な分断、対立、不正の諸状況を真正面に見据えて、今日における宗教の可能性を模索する。
