In this class, students will learn sociological ideas and basic theories that explain the systems of society, and aim to acquire the ability to explain social systems based on evidence and logical thinking.
Sociology is, in simple terms, what explains various social phenomena (or social facts) that occur in society. Such a phenomena is what we experience in everyday life. That is, for example, interaction with others close to us, "family", "community", or "social inequality" etc. How do they emerge in front of us? Why do they occur? Sociology aims to answer such questions. In this class, students will learn sociological ideas, basic theories and research methods to understand the systems of society.

この授業では、社会の成り立ちを説明する社会学の基本的な考え方および基礎理論、調査法などの概要を学習する。社会学の考え方を身につけることで、一見単純に見える社会現象の背後に、実は複雑なメカニズム、深遠な背景、様々な歴史的経緯があるということを理解し、根拠と論理性を持って社会の仕組みを説明できるようになることを目指す。

社会学とは、ごく簡潔に言えば、社会の中に生じる様々な現象（社会現象、社会的事実）を対象に、その成り立ちやメカニズムを説明しようとする学問である。私たちが日々経験している現象―それは例えば、身近な他者との付き合いであったり、「家族」であったり、「コミュニティ」であったり、あるいは「社会的不平等」などであったりするが―は、なぜ、いかにしてそのようなものとして私たちの前に現れるのか。社会学は、そうした社会現象の成り立ちに、改めて論理的な説明を与えるものである。この授業では、こうした社会現象の成り立ちを説明する社会学の考え方および基礎理論、調査法などの概要について学習する。
