In this class, through analyzing photographic images with reference to related literature, students will be able to explore the relationship between photographic images and body perception, and to consider the essence and function of photographic images and the significance of their existence.
Our daily life is filled with images, including Instagram photos and videos, but have you ever stopped and thought long and hard about their existence? We may not have thought about it as much as we thought because it has become so commonplace.
However, even though the familiarity of the presence of images may have dulled the sensitivity of the human body's perception of them, the power that comes from the very nature of their existence has not itself been lost. Photography was born in the middle of the 19th century, but still continues to exert its fascination. Through this class, we will confirm the significance and appeal of viewing, taking, and talking about photography.
Advances in science and technology, such as AI, are forcing the world of images to undergo various transformations. In these times, this class will examine the nature of the photographic image and the problems of human perception of it from the perspectives of frame, detail, focus, relationship with words, time, and other aspects that characterize photography.

授業時間外の学修に関する指示は、履修登録完了後に授業内で、もしくは「CanvasLMS」上で履修者に対しておこなう。指定されたテクストを事前・事後で熟読することや写真の鑑賞、スマホ等での撮影など、各回の予習・復習には各々2時間程度を要する。

「Canvas LMS」を通じて、授業に関する連絡等をおこなうことがあります。PCやタブレット等、「CanvasLMS」にアクセスできる機器を授業時に持参する必要がある場合は、事前に授業内等で告知します。また、スマホかカメラがあれば履修には問題ありませんが、履修者数や教室環境などの状況に応じ、可能であればスマホやカメラなどで撮影の宿題を出し、それをもとにグループディスカッションをしていただく場合があります。

この授業では、関連文献などを参照しながら写真映像を分析することを通じて、写真なる映像と身体の知覚の関係を探り、写真映像の本質や機能、写真の存在意義について考察することができるようになることを目指します。

私たちの日常には、インスタグラム写真や動画をはじめとした映像があふれていますが、皆さんはその存在について、立ち止まってじっくりと考えたことはあるでしょうか。もはや当たり前の存在になったからこそ、案外考えたことはないかもしれません。
けれど、映像の存在が身近になったことで、それへの人間の身体知覚の感度が鈍っていることはあるにしても、その存在の本質から来る力自体が失われたわけではありません。写真が誕生したのは19世紀の半ばですが、いまだ、写真はその魅力を放ち続けています。この授業を通して、写真を観ること、撮ること、それを語ることの意義と魅力を確認します。
AIなど科学技術の進展は、映像の世界にもさまざまな変容を迫っている状況です。このような時代に、本授業では、写真という映像の性質とそれを受け取る人間の知覚の問題を巡って、フレームや細部、焦点、言葉との関係、時間といった写真と特徴づける切り口から考察していきます。
