The course attempts to show the 130-year history of cinema by examining some important films. In addition, the course considers the history of cinema in relation to the society.
Selecting several important films, the course will consider the film for two weeks through lectures (the first week of them) and discussions (the second week of them). Through these works, the students will understand the relation of film and society. The course will discuss the history of world cinema, particularly treating Japanese cinema and American cinema.

過去130年ほどにわたる映画史の概観をいくつかの重要作品を中心に検証しながら提示する。さらに映画史を社会との関係について考える。
The course attempts to show the 130-year history of cinema by examining some important films. In addition, the course considers the history of cinema in relation to the society.
重要映画作品をいくつか選び、２週にわたって、その作品について講義（その第１週）およびディスカッション（その第２週）をおこなう。こうした学習を通じて、学生は映画と社会の関係を理解する。授業では、日本映画やアメリカ映画を中心に扱いながら、世界映画史について論じる。
