・To acquire basic knowledge of peace studies and understand the importance of cultural peace in peacebuilding.
・To understand the international politics of postwar Japan and the development of the peace ideology of Japan as a peaceful nation.
・To learn the differences regarding thoughts on peace proposed by the government, political parties, political thinkers, war victims, war criminals, atomic bomb survivors, war bereaved families, etc., and to apply the gained knowledge to build new approaches to peace required in the global society.
After providing basic knowledge about peace studies and explaining the importance of cultural peace and human rights in peacebuilding, this course chronologically outlines thoughts on peace in postwar Japan. The fourteen lectures are based on three axes: (1) Japan’s peace thoughts and political thoughts, (2) issues surrounding anti-nuclear weapon thoughts and actors in them, and (3) reconciliation in history and issues surrounding Yasukuni Shrine. First, the course talks about how “peace” was sought in the era when the Constitution of Japan was enacted, taking democracy into account and renouncing war. It also discusses the discussions in the Peace Study Group, where many intellectuals participated. We will also see how the peace thoughts were related to the political thoughts at that time, considering the inter/intranational situations up to the 1955 regime. Second, the course discusses the approaches to peace taken by different political parties in the era when the anti-nuclear ideology was becoming more and more important. It will also mention the commemoration of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the peace thoughts proposed by A-bomb survivors. Third, the issues of war memory and reconciliation are to be presented. They are discussed from the perspectives of both war perpetrators and war victims. We will also see the controversies over the Prime Minister’s visit to Yasukuni Shrine and the conflicts between Japan, China, and South Korea concerning how the war history should be perceived. Through all these, we will examine how to build new approaches to peace in the global society.

・平和学の基礎知識を身につけ、平和構築における文化的平和の重要性について理解する。

・政府、政治政党、政治思想家、戦争被害者、戦争加害者、被爆者、戦没者遺族など、アクターによる平和思想の違いを知り、グローバル社会に求められる新しい平和的アプローチに応用する。

平和学の基礎と平和構築における文化的平和と人権の確立の重要性を説明したうえで、戦後日本の平和思想を時系列に沿って紐解く。本講義は、日本の平和思想と政治思想について、反核思想とアクターの問題、歴史和解と靖国参拝問題の三つの軸で構成される。第一に、民主主義や戦争放棄を内包した平和主義を目標とした憲法が制定される時代、「平和」がどのように模索されていたかを、多種多様な知識人が参加した「平和問題談話会」の議論を紹介して、考察する。1955年体制に至るまでの国際・国内政治状況を踏まえ、当時の平和思想がどのような政治思想と関係していたのか明らかにする。第二に、反核思想が平和思想の中で重要性を増す時代の各政党の考え方や立場の違いを解説する。ヒロシマ、ナガサキの記念の在り方やヒバクシャの平和思想についても紹介する。第三に、戦争の記憶と和解の問題を取り上げ、加害者と被害者の戦争記憶や記念の課題について考察する。首相の靖国参拝と日中韓の歴史認識を巡る衝突も紹介する。これらを通して、グローバル社会に対応する平和構築の新しいアプローチを議論する。
