In this course, students will examine the historical development of the concepts of human rights and gender, and develop the ability to analyze contemporary social issues from human rights and gender perspectives.
Although “human rights” are commonly understood as a universal concept, it is well known that women’s rights were excluded at the time of their formation, which was shaped primarily by white men. In the first part of the course, students will examine the historical development of modern human rights, focusing on how the concept has responded to social contestation and evolved across different historical periods. In the latter part of the course, we will turn to concrete issues in contemporary society and collectively explore how these issues can be understood and analyzed from the perspectives of human rights and gender.

人権とジェンダーの概念をその歴史的成り立ちから理解し、現代社会における様々な問題を、人権およびジェンダー的視点によって考えられるようになる。
In this course, students will examine the historical development of the concepts of human rights and gender, and develop the ability to analyze contemporary social issues from human rights and gender perspectives.
「近代的人権」は普遍的な概念として把握されているが、主に白人男性たちによって作られた成立当初は「女性の人権」が除外されていたことはとても有名である。授業の最初ではまず「近代的人権」の歴史的経緯を把握し、人権概念が各時代における異議申し立てにどのように対応し、変化をしてきたかを学ぶ。その後に、現代の社会における具体的な諸問題を取り上げ、人権とジェンダー的視点によって、それら諸問題をどのように理解し、考えたらよいかを一緒に検討していく。
