This course explores how language, culture, and identity are interconnected in an increasingly globalized world, empowering students to navigate a changing world with greater empathy and understanding. Upon successful completion of this course, students are expected to be able to:
1. Understand the concepts of plurilingualism and pluriculturalism within the context of globalization.
2. Critically evaluate the current state of linguistic and cultural diversity worldwide.
3. Develop a deeper understanding of their own linguistic and cultural identities through critical reflection on their own linguistic (both native and foreign) and cultural experiences.
4. Engage with diverse languages, cultures, and perspectives through authentic language materials, fostering a greater appreciation for the value of linguistic and cultural diversity.
5. Articulate the personal and societal significance of learning foreign languages.
"Plurilingualism and Pluriculturalism" is a concept that recognizes and nurtures the diverse linguistic competencies and cultural experiences of each individual as a "holistic competence" in today's linguistically and culturally diverse and interconnected world. While the concept originated in multilingual Europe, it has become a key focus in foreign language education worldwide in this era of globalization.
This course explores the fundamental concepts of plurilingualism/pluriculturalism, examining the circumstances surrounding world’s languages and cultures, as well as the benefits of learning multiple languages. Through relevant lectures and group discussions, students will deepen their understanding of these topics and broaden their perspectives. Each session encourages multifaceted and critical examination of the topics discussed. The course will navigate students to discover their personal significance of learning foreign languages and how they can contribute to society with their unique linguistic and cultural competencies.

毎回の授業ではグループディスカッションが実施され、積極的に参加することが求めらます。またプロジェクトでは学生各自が言語データの分析作業を行い、クラスメイトと意見交換をし、プレゼンテーションを行います。よって、受け身的な履修ではなく主体的に授業に参加することが必須です。
日本語母語話者ではない場合は、日本語で講義を聞き、ディスカッションやプレゼンテーションを行えるレベルの日本語能力が必要です。
課題の提出用にパソコンが必要となります。また学期後半に実施するディスコース分析プロジェクトでは動画が再生できる機器（パソコンまたはタブレット）とイヤホンを持参して頂きます。

本講義では、グローバル化が加速する世界において、言語、文化、アイデンティティがどのように相互に関連しているかを考察することで、変化する世界をより深い共感と理解を持って生き抜いていくための力を養います。具体的には、以下の力を身につけることを目指します。
①グローバル化する現代社会における「複言語・複文化主義」の概念を理解する。
②世界の言語的・文化的多様性を取り巻く現状を批判的に評価する。
③母語と外国語の両方を含む言語経験や文化的経験を批判的に振り返ることを通して、自分の言語的・文化的アイデンティティについて理解を深める。
④言語データを通じて、様々な言語、文化、視点に触れ、言語的・文化的多様性を尊重する姿勢を身につける。
⑤外国語学習の個人的及び社会的意義を見出す。

「複言語・複文化主義」とは、言語・文化の多様性に満ちた近年のグローバル社会において、各個人の持つ様々な言語能力と文化的経験を「複合的な能力」ととらえ、それを育み、尊重する考え方です。多言語社会であるヨーロッパ発の概念ですが、グローバル化が進む今日では世界中の外国語教育で重視されています。
本講義では、複言語・複文化の基本的概念、世界の言語文化を取り巻く事情、複数の言語を学習することの利点などをテーマに扱い、講義および学生によるグループディスカッションを通して理解を深め、知見を広げていきます。各回で扱うテーマを多角的、批判的に考察し、学生一人一人が自分にとっての外国語を学習する意義、そしてユニークな言語・文化能力をもって社会にどう貢献していくべきかを見出していきます。
