Finland has been ranked number one in the world for seven consecutive years in the United Nations' "National Happiness Ranking," with other Nordic countries also ranking high. Nordic literary works, such as Finland's Moomin, have a major influence on the image of Finland and the Nordic countries. However, although Tove Jansson, the original author of the Moomin works, is a Finnish author born in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, her first language is Swedish, and all of the Moomin works were written in Swedish. The goal of this class is to understand the complex linguistic and social background of the Moomin works, now called "world literature," and the original author Tove, and to express this understanding in the form of an exhibition and disseminate it to society at large. The exhibition is scheduled to be held at the Rikkyo Gakuin Exhibition Hall on the Ikebukuro campus from mid-October to mid-December this year, in conjunction with the university festival. This class will be a place to put into practice the work of considering, preparing, and creating the exhibition. This work will be a collaborative effort between the instructor and students in the fourth-year seminar taught by the Faculty of Tourism. For details, please refer to the [Course Contents] below.
The instructor has already held the "Tove Jansson Exhibition" at Rikkyo University Library three times (2018, 2019, 2022) organized by the seminar I teach at the Faculty of Tourism. In each case, the university's public relations department and the library have published articles reporting on the event, so please refer to them. For example, the following is an article introducing the second exhibition (Ikebukuro Library).

In the first half of this year, students of this class "Rikkyo Seminar 2" and students of the fourth-year seminar at the Faculty of Tourism will work together to consider, prepare, and create the exhibition. The work for the second half of this academic year will be taken over by fourth-year seminar students, but those who are interested in completing the exhibition and running it are wholeheartedly welcomed to continue participating in the work (not as a course of study) (because the exhibition will bring together a variety of "Moomin professionals" and "Moomin fans," we strongly encourage you to deepen your communication with these "professionals" and "fans" through your participation in the work).Please refer to the [Course Schedule] below for the theme and content of the exhibition (current "draft").

2012～2015年度1年次入学者対象科目 立教B科目
国連による「国民の幸福度ランキング」ではフィンランドが7年連続世界一で，他の北欧諸国も揃って上位に並んでいます。そのフィンランドや北欧のイメージ形成に大きく影響しているものの中に，フィンランドのムーミンに代表される北欧文学作品があります。ただし，ムーミン作品の原作者トーヴェ・ヤンソンは，フィンランドの首都ヘルシンキで生まれたフィンランド国籍の作家ではあるものの，彼女の第一言語はスウェーデン語で，ムーミン作品はすべてスウェーデン語で書かれました。この授業は，今や「世界文学」とも呼ばれるムーミン作品とその原作者トーヴェとが持つ複雑な言語・社会的背景を理解し，さらには，その理解を展示会という形で表現して広く社会へ発信することを目標とします。展示会は今年度の10月半ばから12月半ばまで，すなわち大学祭に合わせて，池袋キャンパスの立教学院展示館で開催することが決まっています。この授業はそこへ向けての展示の検討・準備・制作の作業を実践する場になります。その作業は，授業担当者が観光学部で指導する4年ゼミの履修生たち等との協働作業になりますが，詳細は以下の【授業の内容】を参考にしてください。

今年度前期は，この授業「立教ゼミナール2」の履修生と，観光学部の4年ゼミの履修生等との，両者が協働して展示の検討・準備・制作の作業を重ねます。今年度後期の作業は（原則としては）4年ゼミ生たち（だけ）が引き継いで進めますが，展示の完成作業や展示会の運営作業に関心のある人たちについては，作業への（授業履修ではないものの）自由な継続参加を心から歓迎します（と言うのも，展示会には種々の「ムーミンのプロ」たち（出版関係者等）や「ムーミンのファン」たち（「ムーミン公式ファンクラブ」会員等）が来訪しますので，作業への参加を通して，これら「プロ」や「ファン」とコミュニケーションを深めることを強くお薦めします）。展示のテーマや内容（現時点での「案」）については，以下の【授業計画】を参考にしてください。
