A major goal of this class is to develop a broad range of thinking and sensitivity. In the class, senior and undergraduate students will discuss songs and music that have influenced them. They will also mutually analyze and discuss the songs and music. The ultimate goal is to explore together as a specific issue how the culture of each generation can be passed on, given the differences in values between the generations.
Classmates will share their respective musical experiences (i.e., songs and compositions they have listened to or performed), and read the experiences and compositions in the context of the times. Through discussion, we will also sort out the similarities and dissimilarities of each musical experience. We will then discuss the continuity and transition of Japanese popular culture from a cultural perspective. We will listen to several pieces of music each time and proceed with analysis and discussion. The discussions and reflections will be verbalized in the form of fill-in sheets and reaction papers, and will be summarized as a learning outcome.

履修にあたっては、自身の歌・音楽体験について省察し、時代・社会・文化的文脈にその体験を位置付け、好き・嫌いの尺度ではなく、それぞれの音楽体験を尊重しながら議論する積極性を求めます。
2012～2015年度1年次入学者対象科目 立教B科目
この授業の大きな目標は、幅広い思考力と感性を養うことです。授業では、シニアの学生と学部の学生が、自分の影響を受けた歌・音楽について語り合います。また、その楽曲の分析と考察を相互に行います。最終目標は、世代間の価値観の相違点をふまえ、各世代の文化の継承はどのように可能なのかということを、具体的課題としてクラス全員で探究します。

クラスメイトのそれぞれの音楽体験（鑑賞・演奏したことのある歌や楽曲などの紹介）を共有し、その体験や楽曲を時代の文脈に置き直して読み解きます。また、ディスカッションを通してそれぞれの音楽体験の相異点と共通点を整理します。その上で、日本のポピュラー文化の継続と変遷についての文化論的考察を行います。毎回いくつかの楽曲を聴き合いながら、分析と考察を進めます。また、議論や考察の内容は記入式シートやリアクションペーパーなどで言語化し、学修成果としてまとめます。
