【Course Objectives】

Students will obtain basic understandings of ecological economics, sustainability, planetary boundaries, and wellbeing. They will familiarize themselves with critical thinking and interdisciplinary discussions. They will also learn frameworks and acquire skills to implement sustainable wellbeing in society, through conversations with practitioners.

【Course Contents】

Students will learn, through lectures, basics of ecological economics, sustainability, planetary boundaries, and wellbeing. There will be discussions every week through which students will deepen understanding of above themes. The course will examine, through conversations with guest speakers, practical examples, possibilities and challenges in implementing sustainable wellbeing in society. The students will form groups and work for projects such as to disseminate what they have learned from the course or to apply them in daily life, and present the projects at the end of the course. Each student will make one presentation of an assigned theme during the course.

Pre-class readings, review tasks, and individual/ group presentation tasks will be announced during the classes and/or on Canvas LMS. You will be working for about two hours before and after each class (including time for group projects).

The course will be conducted in English. Though no specific test scores (English proficiency scores) are asked for, please refer to the following descriptions and test score examples when you decide your registration. There will be lectures, small group discussions, meetings for group tasks, and presentations of tasks in English.
A rough estimate of required English level: CEFR B2、TOEFL(IBT) 80、IELTS 6、TOEIC 750、Eiken Pre-First grade
