Notes

【Course Objectives】

Students should
a) master essential reading strategies such as skimming, scanning, and annotating.
b) master essential writing strategies such as prewriting, drafting, revising, and proofreading.
c) improve academic writing skills through writing paragraph/multiparagraph level
essays in various discourse genres.
d) practice writing to improve accuracy, fluency, and complexity.
e) develop receptive as well as productive vocabulary knowledge essential for reading
and writing academic texts.
f) learn to use Word or equivalent software to compose academic texts.

【Course Contents】

Various in-class activities and homework assignments are to be completed individually, in pairs, or groups, which will help the students integratively develop their reading and writing skills. The following tables summarize the overall performance goals of reading and writing components for the course. Note that specific writing/reading tasks to be carried out in class may vary from one level to another.
