Intended for students who completed the beginner level. Students will read a number of materials of various types and on various subjects and become trained to gradually be able to read longer sentences.
Students are expected to increase their passive and active vocabulary through reading. They will also complete exercises that can turn their knowledge of beginning sentence patterns and vocabulary into active language skills.
Students will also practice guessing the meaning of an unknown word from context and continue reading rather than using a dictionary.
The course is centered on reading materials on various subjects. Students will learn to improve their reading skills and understanding of contents.
They will also practice summarizing an author’s arguments and main points as well as deepen their understanding of contents through discussions.
In each class, students will be given homework to compose short sentences with new vocabulary texts. There will be quizzes on those new vocabulary items in each of the following weeks.

初級(しょきゅう)修了(しゅうりょう)レベルの学習者(がくしゅうしゃ)を対象(たいしょう)とする。様々(さまざま)な分野(ぶんや)の読解(どっかい)教材(きょうざい)を数多(かずおお)く読(よ)み,徐々(じょじょ)に⻑(なが)い⽂章(ぶんしょう)にも対応(たいおう)できるようにしていく。読解(どっかい)を通(とお)して使⽤(しよう)語彙(ごい),理解(りかい)語彙(ごい)を増(ふ)やすとともに,初級(しょきゅう)⽂型(ぶんけい)や初級(しょきゅう)語彙(ごい)が使⽤(しよう)語彙(ごい)にまで⾼(たか)まるような練習(れんしゅう)を⾏(おこな)う。また,⽂章中(ぶんしょうちゅう)に意味(いみ)の分(わ)からない語(ご)が出(で)てきた場合(ばあい)に,辞書(じしょ)を引(ひ)かなくても,前後(ぜんご)の⽂脈(ぶんみゃく)から意味(いみ)を推測(すいそく)して読(よ)み進(すす)めることができるような練習(れんしゅう)を⾏(おこな)う。
