【Course Objectives】

Through this course, students will be able to:

●Talk about a wide range of topics in interviews, long turns, and academic discussions (L)
●Write descriptions, preferences and explanations with reasons and support (L)
●Respond to a variety of texts through TOEFL test relevant speaking and writing tasks (L)
●Demonstrate an understanding of self-directed language learning strategies (C)
●Compile practical information about taking classes at a university abroad (C)
●Prepare for adapting to life in a foreign culture (C)

【Course Contents】

This intermediate course is for students who are interested in studying abroad in the future and want to continue improving their academic communication skills. Including a wide range of contents relevant to studying abroad, the course focuses on developing students’ fluency and confidence in academic English. The course will also help students become more independent language learners and develop the skills necessary for the TOEFL test.

【授業時間外(予習・復習等)の学修 / Study Required Outside of Class】

(1) Students are expected to review class materials and work on assigned TOEFL test practice questions. (approximately 2 hours)
(2) Students are required to work on vocabulary building using the class vocabulary list and review it every week. (approximately 1 hour)
(3) Students should conduct research to prepare for presentations. (approximately 1 hour)

If you do not attend 80% or more of the scheduled classes, you will not be considered for course evaluation.

●Even if you are absent, you are expected to submit your homework assignments on time. Also, students are expected to preview and review all materials constantly and actively participate in classroom activities. Please contact your instructor if you have any questions or concerns.

●We will use Canvas LMS as the primary avenue for online communication including class announcements, material distribution, and assignment submissions.

●The schedule is tentative and subject to change, based on a needs analysis and time constraints. Any changes will be announced in advance.
