There are two main goals of this class: content goals and language goals.
(Content goals)
1) Students will be able to follow lectures, discussions, and presentations about multimodal communication in English.
2) Students will be able to understand and respond to detailed descriptions of topics related to multimodal communication in English.
3) Students will be able to synthesize information related to multimodal communication in English and present the findings in a clear and concise manner.
(Language goals)
1) Students will be able to use a range of vocabulary and expressions related to multimodal communication in English.
2) Students will be able to respond to and ask follow-up questions that probe for more detail during discussions about multimodal communication in English.
3) Students will be able to express evaluative comments and opinions about multimodal communication in English.
This course aims to deepen students’ understanding of communication by analyzing various forms of communication, such as written, spoken, and visual messages, across a range of media platforms. These include printed and audio materials, letters, emails, video clips, films, social media, and other digital content.
Students will learn basic communication theories and apply them in both individual and group projects. They will search for, select, and analyze materials of their choice, and explain how these materials are structured to communicate meaning. As a final project, students will create their own digital material to communicate a message.

Active in-class participation (asking/answering questions, expressing opinions during discussions, working in pairs/groups to complete assigned tasks, etc.)
Students are expected to bring a laptop computer to each class.
Even if you are absent, you are expected to submit your homework assignments on time. Also, students are expected to preview and review all materials constantly and actively participate in classroom activities. Please contact your instructor if you have any questions or concerns.
We will use Canvas as the primary avenue for online communication including class announcements, material distribution, and assignment submissions.
