This course is designed to support independent language learning. To achieve individual language learning goals, students will design and carry out language learning plans. Weekly discussions will be based on reflective journals and reports on out-of-class learning activities. The contents of the course will be from the students’ own academic disciplines and interests. In groups, students will participate in presentations and discussion activities throughout the course.
Projects:
Project 1: Multimodal Language Learning History
In this project, students will do a presentation about their own language learning history background to reflect on learning goals and set new goals for the future.
Project 2: Midterm SDRLL Infographic
In this project, students will create an infographic that explains some of the strategies they have been using so far in the course for their self-directed reflective language learning journey. Students can choose what themes they want to include in the infographic and will be able to share their infographic with their classmates afterwards.
Final Project: SDRLL Celebration
In this project, students will organize a class celebration event in order to reflect on what they have achieved so far in the course. The celebration will include a showcase of student’s “before and after” videos and an awards ceremony. The purpose is to help students reflect on their progress and achievements from the semester in a celebratory way.
