【Course Objectives】

Throughout this course, students will learn how to:
1.create learning goals and reflect on progress
2.describe features and stages of learning plans
3.consider aspects of individual learning histories in relation to culture and learning backgrounds
4.implement and reflect on individual language learning plan
5.show understanding of subject-specific vocabulary
6.respond appropriately using questions/replies in presentations and cooperate in group discussion

【Course Contents】

This course is designed to support independent language learning. To achieve individual language learning goals, students will design and carry out language learning plans. Weekly discussions will be based on reflective journals and reports on out-of-class learning activities. The contents of the course will be from the students’ own academic disciplines and interests. In groups, students will participate in presentations and discussion activities throughout the course.

Projects:
Project 1: Multimodal Language Learning History
In this project, students will do a presentation about their own language learning history background to reflect on learning goals and set new goals for the future.

Project 2: Midterm SDRLL Infographic
In this project, students will create an infographic that explains some of the strategies they have been using so far in the course for their self-directed reflective language learning journey. Students can choose what themes they want to include in the infographic and will be able to share their infographic with their classmates afterwards.

Final Project: SDRLL Celebration
In this project, students will organize a class celebration event in order to reflect on what they have achieved so far in the course. The celebration will include a showcase of student’s “before and after” videos and an awards ceremony. The purpose is to help students reflect on their progress and achievements from the semester in a celebratory way.

【授業時間外(予習・復習等)の学修 / Study Required Outside of Class】

At Rikkyo University, students are required to spend 45 hours of study (including class time) per credit.
Please prepare for classes and review the material accordingly.
Assignments: Students will write weekly reflective papers to help them keep track of their thoughts as they carry out their language learning plans. The reflective paper will include writing a short paragraph as well as drawing a timeline to show their progress.
