【Course Objectives】

This course is designed for students to develop communicative and academic language skills through understanding topics related to Natural Science. The course is designed to provide an overview of two major branches of Natural Science, Biology and Physics.

【Course Contents】

Students are expected to obtain information, ideas, and opinions from scientific sources and to engage in critical thinking. Students will use a variety of materials to participate in discussions and engage in active learning in several ways (vocabulary skills, reading, writing, discussion, active listening, and presentation). Three times during the semester, students are expected to give clear, organized presentations, highlighting significant points regarding topics related to the class. Students shall also produce a report which develops an argument, giving reasons in support of or against a particular point of view related to topics and/or themes from the class.

Throughout this CLIL course, students will learn how to:
1)understand a structured lecture and take notes on major points (Language goal)
2)understand and use topic-specific vocabulary and academic vocabulary necessary to understand lectures and participate in discussions (Language goal)
3)present their ideas, pose questions, and further develop views and opinions through discussions and presentations (Language goal)
4)effectively gather, evaluate, use, compare, and contrast different sources of information (Content goal)
