Through this introductory course, students will gain an understanding of the basics of advertising. Students will:
[∙]Examine, analyze, interpret, and evaluate advertisements through different forms of media both individually and collaboratively
[∙]Create different advertisements and campaigns incorporating various forms of media by collaborating with classmates
[∙]Improve communication skills by actively engaging in discussions about advertising and analysis
[∙]Acquire terminology related advertising and media and incorporate it into discussions and presentations
[∙]Develop and improve presentation skills through project preparation and delivery
During the semester, students will attend lectures, learn advertising terminology, have discussions, complete assignments, and create their own advertisements in order to develop an awareness and general understanding of advertising and the media. Advertising strategies will include learning about consumers and target markets. Students will examine and analyze advertising through different forms of media (radio, TV, social media, outdoor) to identify and interpret messages and persuasive techniques used to attract customers. Lastly, students will discuss ethical considerations in advertising and examine and predict future trends in advertising.

Homework: In order to participate actively, homework is expected to be completed and submitted before the deadline. This includes when you are absent. If you are absent, please contact either your classmates or instructor if you cannot come to class. Also, please contact either your classmates or instructor and ask if there are any materials distributed in class that you have missed.
