【Course Objectives】

This course is designed to inform participants about the movements, issues, and topics relevant to contemporary art from around the world. We will be examining some of the most important artists of this era and their works through lectures, close-looking, and discussion-based inquiry to understand the aesthetic and societal influences behind them. The material will be presented in English and participants will acquire essential language skills to comprehend lectures, videos, and readings. Students will acquire art-related vocabulary and concepts to engage in group discussions to question and evaluate the relevance of art in society.

【Course Contents】

The content goals of this class are:
- To enable students to follow lectures, discussions, and presentations in art
- To understand and respond to detailed descriptions of subjects and issues related to art
- To be able to synthesize information from contemporary art-based sources and present the findings in a clear and concise manner

The language goals of this class are:
- To be able to appropriately use a range of technical vocabulary, expressions, and concepts common to contemporary art
- To be able respond and ask follow-up questions probing for more detail during art-related discussions
- To be able to express evaluative comments and opinions about art
