【Course Objectives】

By the end of the semester students should be able to:
・explain what the SDGs are and how they were created.
・explain the complimenting and conflicting nature of the SDGs.
・demonstrate how lifestyle choices have an impact on achieving the SDGs.
・analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives and policies for achieving the SDGs.
・give informative and persuasive presentations on what needs to be done to achieve the SDGs.
・apply note taking strategies to capture, organize, distill, and synthesize information from lectures, and other sources.
・understand and use vocabulary and terms related to sustainable development
・participate in discussions with their classmates

【Course Contents】

In this course, students will study the United Nation’s Sustainable Development goals (SDGs). The philosophy behind the SDGs and why they were created will be introduced as well as essential vocabulary and terms related to sustainable development. Students will have opportunities to evaluate how their lifestyle choices may have an effect on achieving the SDGs as well as research and analyze methods, initiative, and policies that may lead to solving issues that will lead into achieving the SDGs within Japan and globally.
