Throughout this course, students will learn how to:
- understand key theories and concepts in intercultural communication (C)
- describe issues in intercultural communication using relevant theories and concepts (C)
- apply knowledge of intercultural communication and make connections to their own experiences (C)
- synthesize information from two or more sources to provide comprehensive descriptions of related topics (L)
- present thoughts and experiences clearly, logically, and comprehensibly, with appropriate citations of sources (L)
- understand and use academic vocabulary necessary to comprehend topics in intercultural communication (L)

This course is designed for students to understand the interconnections among language, language users, and intercultural communication through a combination of readings, lectures, discussions, analysis, and presentations. Students will learn the major theories and concepts related to various intercultural communication issues and will examine the characteristics of language, language users, and intercultural communication in today’s increasingly diverse and interconnected world. Additionally, students will develop their academic language skills necessary to comprehend the key points in academic texts and lectures. They will also learn to synthesize information, express their thoughts, and share their experiences in a clear, organized, and comprehensible manner in summaries and discussions. Finally, students will work on a research project involving a creative, exploratory, and interactive presentation on a topic discussed in class.
