1. Read and understand many readings with content-specific vocabulary and definitions (content goal). Summarize and explain this information to other students (language goal).
2. Think about how this information might be realized in the real world (content goal) and creatively write short multi-modal scripts together with an explanation of the connection between the script and the theory (language goal).
3. Do independent research on an area introduced in the class (content goal) and write and present both a poster project and an MS PowerPoint presentation (language goal).
This CLIL course aims to give students an overview of intercultural communications by looking at different aspects of what culture is and what happens when different cultures meet.
The course is divided into three groups of classes, Culture and Self, Culture and Others, Cultural Meetings. The final input class of the first two groups is a transition to the following group.
After each group, there is an assessment class which includes a test on vocabulary covered during that group. Another small assignment is the development of multimodal scripts (formatted with both audio and visual information) to show aspects of topics covered, together with an explanation of how it does so.
Major assignments include a poster presentation, and a final presentation done using presentation software (for example, MS PowerPoint), recorded as a video outside of class (using, for example, Zoom) and submitted to the Google Classroom website for this course.
