【Course Objectives】

In this course, students will:
• participate in group discussions about abstract and complex topics,
• give clear, detailed descriptions about complex topics, and combine various themes in order to develop ideas during discussion,
• read a variety of complex texts in order to analyse the author’s opinions and identify details in the text,
• create a clear, organized presentation about a complex topic that includes evidence, reasons and examples,
• deliver a presentation effectively so that the audience can understand the overall argument.

【Course Contents】

This is a discussion-based course that will enable students to deepen their understanding of Japanese issues while developing their English skills through readings, discussions, lectures, and presentations.The course explores the social organization of contemporary Japanese society and its relationships between its social institutions and practices. We will examine many of the central social processes shaping Japanese society and identities today and consider contemporary political, intercultural, family and historical contexts.
