【Course Objectives】

This course is designed to develop students’ communicative competence in professional and business contexts. Through interactive tasks, role-plays, discussions, and presentations, students will practice describing their work, expressing career goals, handling workplace interactions, and delivering effective business presentations. The course emphasizes practical skills for interviews, meetings, negotiations, and customer relations while fostering confidence in organizing and presenting ideas clearly. By the end of the course, students will be able to integrate key business communication strategies into real-world professional situations.

【Course Contents】

Throughout this course, students will learn how to:
Identify and recall essential vocabulary and expressions related to business communication.
Demonstrate comprehension of workplace concepts such as work-life balance, projects, customer service, finance, and innovation.
Apply effective strategies in simulated business situations (e.g., interviews, in-person and online meetings, and customer interactions).
Compare and contrast different approaches to workplace communication (e.g., apologizing, making suggestions, handling complaints).
Analyze case scenarios to identify effective and ineffective communication strategies.
Design and deliver professional presentations with visuals to introduce innovative ideas and new products.
Develop original solutions to workplace communication challenges (e.g., launching a product, organizing a meeting, resolving customer issues).

Even when you are absent, you are expected to submit your homework assignments on time. Please contact either your classmates or instructor if you cannot come to class. Also please contact your classmates or instructor and ask if there are any materials distributed in class that you have missed. Also, students are expected to preview and review all materials constantly and actively participate in classroom activities.

Late Assignments:
I will accept late assignments for up to 1 week. You will lose 10% of your earned grade for each day you are late (e.g. If you would have earned an 85% and turn in an assignment 2 days late, your will receive a 65%). It is your responsibility to submit missed assignments; do not expect or rely on a reminder from me to submit a late assignment.

A reminder about Academic Dishonesty:
The following will be considered as forms of academic dishonesty:

1. Plagiarizing other people's writing, including both taking material from an outside source and not crediting the author and using writing that is not the student's writing as one's own writing.
2. Using translator software to write a report.
3. Using the same report to fulfill assignments for two different classes.
4. Using a report written by another student to fulfill assignments.
5. Showing or lending one's report to another student, knowing that the student will copy the entire report (or a part of it) and submit it as her or his own work.
