This course aims to enable students to enjoy sign language conversations, including explaining personal experiences in their daily life and such events as Christmas and travel.
This is an elementary Japanese sign language class. This class aims to cultivate communication skills using an expressive sign language and the ability to read sign language as well as highlighting the social background of deaf people. In addition, through lectures on the overview of deaf people’s occupations and meeting deaf people, students will obtain deeper insight into the social status of deaf people in Japan and around the world. Students are expected to read assigned books outside class hours to enrich their understanding of the deaf community. To demonstrate their achievement of the class learning outcomes, students will have opportunities to practice their communication skills outside of the classroom.

アナウンスメントの確認やコメントシート提出等の為、スマホまたはPCを持参してください。
基本的に実技はネイティブサイナー（ろう者）が手話のみで指導する。チームティーチャー（聴者）が適宜通訳でフォローする。パワーポイントやDVDの読み取りなど視覚的教材を多用する。ペアワークやグループワーク、クラス内の発表などアクティブラーニングを取り入れる。
【履修目安】初習・CEFR A1・全国手話検定試験５級合格レべル
「日本手話初級１」の単位修得済が望ましい。
日常生活における身近な体験やクリスマスや旅行などのイベントについての表現ができ，手話で会話を楽しめるレベルを目指す。

日本手話・初級編の語学講義。豊かな表現力を持つ手話を通してコミュニケーション能力を磨くと共に，ろう者の社会的背景を学ぶ。また，手話を読み取る力を養う。また，ろう者の職業についての概説や，実在するろう者の紹介を通して社会における国内外のろう者像を探る。さらに、授業外に課題図書を読み進めることで、ろう者社会への理解を深める。授業で学習したコミュニケーション能力は成果として発信し、授業外でも発揮する機会を設けていく。
