【Course Objectives】

This course offers a hands-on learning experience, particularly tailored to meet the distinct challenges faced by the tourism and travel industry in its post-COVID-19 recovery phase.
By thinking about how to solve these challenges and how to tackle them through practical work, participants will acquire "practical views and ideas that can respond to changes in the environment and essential skills as a member of society", which will be useful in their respective workplaces after graduation.

【Course Contents】

Tourism, heralded as a pivotal industry of the 21st century, is currently navigating its resurgence following the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. This sector is garnering significant interest for its crucial role in addressing social issues both in Japan and internationally.
The main focus of this course will be on "tourism as a means of solving local social issues." The theme of social issues, especially "SDGs and tourism town planning," will be discussed through card games and group discussions. This is also an important theme in terms of the significance and role of tourism in the post-Corona era.
The class will consist of four steps: "Lecture" to introduce basic knowledge and specific examples of each theme, "Card Game" to learn about the theme in a fun and lively atmosphere, "Group Discussion" to discuss the lecture topics in small groups, and "Presentation and Review".
The first half will focus on "SDGs and tourism town planning: Creation and proposal of a regional development planning for Namegata City of Ibaraki Prefecture," while the last half will focus on "Planning and proposal of a town walking guide using the voice application "Emorip"".
Instead of past case studies, the participants will work on real cases in real time, formulate local revitalization plans that connect tourism/travel with solutions to social issues, and actually give their presentation to Namegata City and HAKUHODO Inc. Through these activities, participants will acquire not only planning and proposal skills, but also practical and essential skills as businesspersons, such as teamwork and presentation skills.
On Sunday September 29, fieldwork (one-day trip to Namegata City) will be conducted.
Attendance at the fieldwork is strongly recommended.
