Through group discussions, participants will naturally develop key professional competencies such as "adaptability" and "communication skills."

This course promises a learning experience that is both enjoyable and inspiring, filled with stimulating opportunities for you to explore and grow.

【Course Contents】

Tourism, recognized as one of the leading industries of the 21st century, has emerged stronger and continues to progress despite the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, tourism is increasingly regarded as an effective tool for addressing social issues both in Japan and globally, with its potential and role receiving growing attention.
This course focuses on the potential of tourism-driven regional revitalization, with Usuki City in Oita Prefecture as its focal point. Notably, June 15, 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the designation of the "Usuki Stone Buddhas" as a National Treasure, presenting a unique opportunity to leverage this milestone for innovative tourism initiatives. Usuki City is also recognized as a UNESCO’s City of Gastronomy, offering exceptional opportunities to integrate food culture with tourism in ways that highlight its distinctive regional assets. Together, we will explore creative possibilities for tourism projects that capitalize on these resources to invigorate the region.
This course provides practical learning through the following three steps:
-Lectures: Gain foundational knowledge and deepen your understanding of Usuki City's tourism initiatives, including specific examples and the challenges they face.
-Group Discussions: Collaborate in small groups to exchange ideas and develop them into actionable plans.
-Presentations and Feedback: Present your group's proposals and receive valuable feedback directly from local stakeholders in Usuki City.
This course goes beyond analyzing past case studies and instead tackles real-world challenges in real time. Centered on the theme of "Regional revitalization of Usuki City as a Gastronomy City, leveraging the 30th anniversary of the National Treasure designation of the Usuki Stone Buddhas", participants will create tourism-based community planning proposals and present them to local stakeholders in Usuki City. Through this process, participants will refine practical skills such as teamwork and presentation abilities, which are essential for success in the real world.
A fieldwork trip to Usuki City is scheduled for October 25–26, 2025 (tentative).
Through this hands-on learning experience, participants will have the invaluable opportunity to explore the region's tourism resources and food culture, refining your proposals while gaining firsthand insights into local attractions.
Active participation in this fieldwork is strongly encouraged to make the most of this unique opportunity.
Let us fully immerse ourselves in the charm of Usuki City and work together to shape the future of its tourism.
