The course aims to provide students with an understanding of the relationship between tourism and culture. Students will explore the impacts of tourism on culture and vice versa, from a variety of perspectives including anthropology and cultural studies.
The course introduces students with key concepts and cases in relation to the cultural study of tourism, paying special attention on specific types of tourism and their relations with culture. At the end of the course, students will develop a good understanding of the impacts of tourism on culture and vice versa.
This will be a student-centered, interactive course with in-class discussions, group/pair study, and presentations. Each session is designed to give students the opportunities to share their personal experiences and views with the class. Students will be encouraged to relate the course contents to the experience of their own society/community through reflection papers and presentation. Audio-visual materials and Internet resources will be used to enrich the learning experience.

Students are required to actively participate in-class discussions and group/pair work, and to submit assignments/homework on time. Students will also be expected to come to the class fully prepared with reading notes and questions for in-class discussions, reflection papers and presentation.
