The objectives of this course are to understand concepts and challenges regarding heritage (cultural heritage in particular) and its protection as a tourism resource, and to gain basic knowledge about problems around tourism development and heritage conservation.
The protection of cultural heritage (such as World Heritage) has been promoted all around the world, while it is also utilised as one of the important tourism resources. As the concept of “heritage” evolves over the years, heritage as an object for protection and as a tourism resource has also expanded.
This class, through presentations and discussions based on literature readings, will focus on heritage – cultural heritage in particular – and will examines the relationships between heritage and society while thinking about what heritage is, why heritage needs conservation, and what exactly needs to be protected and how.

英語の文献も使用することがあるため、基本的な英語力と取り組もうとする姿勢が必要である。また、ディスカッションを重視するため、積極的に発言する意欲が求められる。
観光資源の一つである遺産（主に文化遺産）とその保護について、その概念や課題に関する基本的な考え方を理解し、観光開発と遺産保護をめぐる問題に対する考え方の基礎的知識を身につける。
The objectives of this course are to understand concepts and challenges regarding heritage (cultural heritage in particular) and its protection as a tourism resource, and to gain basic knowledge about problems around tourism development and heritage conservation.
世界遺産をはじめとする遺産は、世界各地で保護が促進されると共に、重要な観光資源の一つとして利用されている。保護の対象となる遺産の概念が年々変化するにつれ、保護対象としての遺産も、観光対象としての遺産も拡大してきている。
この授業では、文献講読を基にした発表とディスカッションを通じて、遺産、中でも特に文化遺産に焦点を当て、遺産とは何か、何故遺産を守るのか、何をどうやって守るのかといった問題を通し、遺産と社会の関係について考える。
